This landmark, built in 1900, was the home of Fernie's first doctor, Dr. Saul Bonnell and was considered to be the finest in the region when constructed. It is situated in the historic downtown district of Fernie. Locals call this quiet corner of town “The Hood”.

In Fernie, the action is in town and there is no better location in town than our house. Laid back and relaxed, it won’t take you long to get into the Fernie time zone.

Our four bedroom, 2400sq. ft. home, sleeps up to 11. We rent out the entire house by the day (min 2) or week. If you are interested in renting for a longer period of time, we can make arrangements for that as well.

Upstairs Lounge Restored

Upstairs Lounge at NightAt the top of the main stairs is a small lounge area, perfect for reading a book, checking out some maps or or just hanging out with the kids.

Since we purchased the house, the upstairs lounge was certainly no lounge. It was dark, with a dirty green paint that made everything look lifeless. It was a lost corner which we never really used.

Now, the morning sun, beams through the piano window, lighting up the amber in the refinished maple floor and illumninating the entire room. Is that poetic or what? But really, it is beautiful in the morning. You will see if you spend some time at the Doctor's House.

Let It Snow

Taiga plays in the year´s first snowfallIts October 29 and we are getting our first taste of snow already! I am not sure what the weather forecast is but it looks like we will get a fairly signifcant accumulation. We probably have about 6 cm since it started a couple hours ago.

There is nothing more energizing then a fall snow. You can really feel the energy in the air and see the smiles on everyone´s faces. Its great living in a place where peopleactually look forward to winter!

Bear Season

Black bear in the Douglas Fir in front of our houseIt has been another busy bear season with almost nightly sightings of mothers and cubs in and around the neighbourhood. The bears tend to come in town once the cooler fall whether comes, seeking easy food as they fatten up for winter, such as people's garbage or the crab apples from our neighbour's tree.

We try to keep any bear attracants out of harms way (garbage, compost, etc) but no matter how many times the crabapple trees get raked there are always some on the ground and they seem to love the apples.

The first real cold weather should be coming soon and when it does, they will disappear into the mountains to hibernate for another year.
