Bear Season

Black bear in the Douglas Fir in front of our houseIt has been another busy bear season with almost nightly sightings of mothers and cubs in and around the neighbourhood. The bears tend to come in town once the cooler fall whether comes, seeking easy food as they fatten up for winter, such as people's garbage or the crab apples from our neighbour's tree.

We try to keep any bear attracants out of harms way (garbage, compost, etc) but no matter how many times the crabapple trees get raked there are always some on the ground and they seem to love the apples.

The first real cold weather should be coming soon and when it does, they will disappear into the mountains to hibernate for another year.
